Evening's Promise

This poem grew on another hot, sticky afternoon in which it was only when standing outside that there was any relief from the heat.  Muse was kind and offered suggestions to complete this when I felt I was struggling just a bit.

Evening's Promise  -  08 Jul 13

Smell of evening
Dusty leaves
Mingles
With a hint of spice
From flowers

Heat of the day
Fading
Gradually
Into the cool
Of night

Wisps of dream
Start to touch
And whisper
Even in the waking
Moments

The dreams of tomorrow
Start to fill the thoughts
Of now
Night plays
Games again

The night is still rather humid and hot but I feel that I will sleep.

i never have gotten it quite straight if areas like where you live, basically on a peninsula, get the benefit of cooling down at night because of the water, or if it stays just as hot?

here, in the cities, it no longer cools at night - 2am and still 90F degrees.

though i think it does if you go out into the actual desert.

    1. Generally the nights are cooler especially if there is a breeze from the sea but sometimes it remains rather oppressive and sleep can be elusive.

Thank you for your comments dani ♥
