Ghost Of Summer

.
Sometimes I hear the music of Frost.

Ghost Of Summer       -       17 Dec 22

Outside Jack Frost dances
In the grass with the
Ghost of Summer

In the house
Our lips dance together to
The song of Love in our Hearts

I know where I would rather be.

Forgiving [Acrostic]

Playing with a word.

.
Forgiving [Acrostic]     -    27 May 19

First frosts embellished
On orange blossom's blooms
Rites are realised in the
Greatest visions of
Invented imagery
Verified views reshape visions
In the inner landscape
Never reflected in the outer
Golden Dragon's dreams

.
Dragons are wonderful people.

Diamonds In The Night

An observation of a heavy frost.

Diamonds In The Night  -  06 Jan 18

Glinting
While a blackbird sings
In the dark
Of night before the dawn
A scattering of diamonds
Frost jewels

Listening to the blackbird.

Moonbeam

Another observation of the dance.

Moonbeam  -  28 Dec 16

Across the crystals
Dancing light shimmers
Frost on the wall
Moon gathers her skirts
Prepares for another night
Of dancing
Frost holds the moonbeam
Opens the way for Moon
To begin her dance

Watching from my window.

Winter Coming On

A fitting poem for today when it is dark and wet and cold.

Winter Coming On  -  29 Oct 16

The heady days of summer
Now long passed
The nights are getting longer
Becoming colder
Days cannot seem to hold
As much as they did

The songs of autumn
Just a fading memory
Leaves from the trees
Chased by the wind
Across the ground
Hiding in the corners

Soon only frost
Will rule the world
We shall await the warmth
Of beautiful spring days
But for now we watch
The winter coming on

I have heard that it is worse up-country.

Tasting The Weather

Observations on the weather.

Tasting The Weather  -  14 Jan 16

Breathing in
Through an open mouth
Air passing across
The tongue
Tasting
The weather
Rain ~ no
Colder
Frost ~ perhaps snow
Not really welcome

A little experiment anyone can do provided that the flavours are known.

Whispers In The Wind

A winter song.

Whispers In The Wind  -  08 Dec 15

Hear me whisper
In the wind
The winter song
Is opening in my mind
Song of the stars
Carried by the wind
The scent of frost
Is in the air

Sniff the wind and taste the frost.

Morning Ride

An actual event ~ slightly embellished for the sake of poetic feelings.

Morning Ride  -  28 Dec 14

Journeying
Into the East
Sunrise in my eyes
Dark horizons
Behind me
Spectra shone
From ice left by the night
I watch for
The beauty of the day
And the unfolding
Expectations

Day over
Returning to the West
Lights at the end of the world
Lighthouse in a hidden sea

Orion looks down
Watches me
Smiling
Shows me the Moon
She watches
Caresses in a frost painted night

The light of dawn
Now a memory
Dark horizon
Surrounds me

A very frosty morning and on return the frost was settling again.

End of the world refers to Land's End and the lighthouse is Longshhips, since the night was dark the sea was invisible.  Orion is my favourite constellation and the Moon is a first quarter crescent.

Cold Moon

This seems a strange poem to write in August but it has been unusually cold recently ~ so I offer this.

Cold Moon  -  23 Aug 14

Chill wind
Wraps her icy fingers
Around the sliver
Of the Old Moon
Frost prepares
His cold dance
To leave his
Crystalline footprints
In the dark
And the wind
Still blows cold
Out of a cloudless sky

Another weather inspired poem.

Dawn Love

The three stanzas you see here were birthed on different occasions.  The second one was born first when I was in bed awaiting sleep, quite a few weeks ago.  The first arrived a couple of nights ago, perhaps that should be mornings ago because I was rather late in heading for bed.  The final stanza arrived this afternoon [22 Apr 13] as I was contemplating how to put the poem together.  I feel that all three work rather well as a unified whole.

Dawn Love  -  22 Apr 13

Dawn chorus
In a slightly frosted world
Blackbird sings
A strident solo
While collared doves
A soft choir
Sings a backing song

I declare my Love ~
Spoken in the morning
Breeze ~
She will hear me there

Aria sung
The air is quiet but
Now I hear her voice
Answering me
Sweet words
Fill my ears
And my Heart

There are times when I am certain that Muse plays her little games with me.

Night Wind

This poem took a couple of days to fully form and I now think that it is ready to meet the world.

Night Wind  -  26 Feb 13

Night clouds slashed
By the
Sword of wind
Ribbons scattered
Flying free
Flowers of frost bloom
On rooftops
‘Neath the Moon
Blades of ice
Point skyward
Challenging the wind
On the battleground
Of dreams
Unfulfilled

Sometimes a slow birth can result in an interesting "baby".  What do you think?

Frosted Night [re-written]

The poem first posted here three days ago has been re-written after it was pointed out to me that it could be split into two related poems.
So now I offer the new version, presented as a Tanka and an Haikū envoi.
Hoping you like the new offering.

Frosted Night [re-written]  -  08 & 11 Dec 12

Moon ~ her beauty shines
Encrusted ~ a thousand stars
Frosted night Dragons
Sky diamonds shine brightly
Amid enchanted dreaming

Crystal shards ~ glitter
On fields of velvet darkness
Reflecting the glow

Thanks are due to dani harris for her suggestion ~ I always consider any suggestions carefully...especially if they are polite. [smiling as I type]

Frosted Night

Another of the late night or rather, early morning, creations when Muse kept insisting that I made a note of the lines that were forming in my mind.  Glad she did because I nearly forgot that I had even created the note.

Frosted Night  -  08 Dec 12

Moon
Encrusted
Frosted night
Sky diamonds shine
Crystal shards
On fields of darkness
Reflect the glow

Not so strange that poems should grow in darkness.

4 am

Preparing for bed, I caught sight of the Moon riding low in the North-western sky and Muse requested that I start to write.  So the first stanza was birthed, I was actually in bed and starting to drift off to sleep when Muse started to nag me about there being more...turn over - grab pen and pad...

4 am  -  03 Feb 12

I

Dawn so long away
But
In the western sky
A pregnant Moon
Counts the days
As she presides
Over a frost rimed land
Hand rests on her belly
“Soon little one…soon”

II

Frost maiden’s
Scattered crystals
Accentuate
The naked trees

I never feel that it is a good idea to argue with Muse
