After Dawn

.
Too often recently it has been this way.

After Dawn       -      03 Mar 21

Waiting for the Sun
To show his face
Long night
Starless
Looking for our star
Still waiting after dawn
The clouds are brighter
Still waiting
For the Sun

Sometimes even the clouds do not get much brighter.

Evening Slides

.
Watching and listening.

Evening Slides     -     14 Sep 20

Alone on a clifftop
Silence
Apart from the distant waves
Watching
As the last vestiges of
Evening slides
Into the starless depths
Silence continues
As the ocean
Breathes softly

Darkness closes in around me.

Another Time

.
Dark across the world in strange times.

Another Time     -    21 Apr 20

Siren song in the darkness
Of a tired withered dream
Impatient waves
Crush the will of
Another time
As a black flag
Flutters forlornly
At half mast
Taunting the night
Starless
Praying for the dawn

Maybe this will strike a chord in your thoughts.

Silent Shiver

A new poem started to form in my mind, I did not expect an alliterative piece to be the result.

Silent Shiver  -  25 Dec 13

Silent dark
Starless in the cloud-filled night
Sketching colourless phantoms in
Silverpoint detail
Sleeping spirits have
Spiral dreams to keep them company
Scant moments to prepare
Stirring wakefulness as you
Shiver while asleep
See the tired dream
Slide into the mind
Succubus awaits

I did not expect the the content either, especially given the day ~ Joyeux Noel everybody.

Between Words

I'm not entirely certain where the inspiration for this poem came from but it seems to work.  The final line was a very late addition, a couple of hours after the rest of the poem formed.  The structure was unintended but as it formed it felt necessary.

Between Words  -  31 May 13

In between the words
Once spoken as truth
Lie the hidden
The shapeless forms
Of the things
That always should stay
Hidden

In darkness come
Grave robbers of thoughts
Seeking to steal
Corpses of ancient ideas
Cadavers of the tired dream

Moonless starless
Dark absolute
Hiding words

Hiding worlds

Somewhat darker than my offerings of late.

A Sad Song

Writing, once again, in the dark of night with soft music for company. Muse said, "your turn" and asked me to take up pen and write.

A Sad Song - 06 Sep 11

I know I said it
Once
A long time ago
As I walked toward you
I said
I love you
But now I realise
I was walking in vain

I know I said it
In the dark of
A starless night
When even the Moon
Chose not to look
And my words
Lost their way
In the dark

I know I said it
But dark tears
Washed the traces
The feint footprints
From the path
And my lost words
Were walking in the rain
Again

Interesting how a thought can take you into places that have not been explored and can only be seen in the dark of night.
This poem / song is not autobiographical, nor is it about anyone I know, it is just a feeling that grew out of the music to which I was listening at that moment.

This is my offering for:
