Flight Of Night

.
Panic from an unexpected place.

.
Flight Of Night      -     26 Nov 20

As if chased
The images of night
Flee
Scattering dust
Into the watching eye
Night is afraid
Of itself
What can it do
In the light
The flight of night
Causes panic in the
Nightmares

.
Calm them down.

Day Riders

.
Trying to be careful but there is always a risk.

.
Day Riders       -      25 Oct 20

Nightmares are always feared
But
There is something much worse
Never mentioned
Anywhere
Because the voicing of their name
Can call them
Do not even whisper the name of
The Day Riders
I am sorry if I have accidentally
Called them

.
A potential horror story in a poem.

Out Of Light Darkness

.
A strangely inverted time.

.
Out Of Light Darkness     -    16 Feb 20

Lamps extinguished
The day is done
Nightmares awaken
To walk the streets
Hooves clatter
In the darkness
Born out of light
The tired screams
Of recurring dreams
Echo in the night
Dawn might not silence them

.
Try to quiet the night.

Ruined Castles

This poem, with more than a hint of "limite surréaliste", was birthed when I was supposed to be getting to sleep.

Ruined Castles  -  07 Jun 14

Nightmares spin
Their dreadful tales
Gallop through the dreams
Shatter castles
Flailing tails
On the threshold
Of sanity
The house we built
In dream gone now
As is the dream
Lying in the rubble
Of the castle walls

Odd how these things happen.

Waking Nightmare

This poem was actually birthed at the same time as "I Will Take You..." but it didn't feel right to post it then; thinking about it I felt that since life isn't all 'sweet and lovely' the occasional sad poem to illustrate this is valid.

Waking Nightmare - 13 Jan 10

Dream
I lift aside the veil
To look upon your face

In my sleep I watch you
In your sleep
I kiss your shoulder
And your eyes
Smile open

Awake
There is no veil
And you...not here

I gaze upon the empty pillow
My throat knotting up
I bow my head
A single tear slips
To land in that empty space
Where I wish...

Sleep snatches painfully
At my thoughts
Dark thoughts in my mind
Fitful sleep
No rest

I wake
Still alone

I shall return to sweetness and light for my next offering.

Riding in the Dark

Back to the poems today but who knows what will come from this page in the future.

Riding in the Dark - 08 Nov 02

Break the silence
With a cry in the dark
A midnight dream
Disturbs your sleep
The mare leaps
Across your bed
And drags you screaming
Into a darkness of your own
The dread you feel
Is yours alone
To keep
If you choose

Break the tension
With a cry in your dream
Shatter the bonds
Of the midnight schemes
In your sleep, in your dreams
Tame the mare
Ride her 'cross the fields
Of the dark night
Thoughts,
Ride her till the dawn
Comes to light the way,
Now she is yours
And the ride will be sweet

Ride on
Claim the light in the dark
The stars are yours
To claim
If you wish

Just a quick posting today because it is later than I had intended - there shall be more soon.
